I\'ve got to watch Slayer in concert. No matter what people say, they started it out for me and millions of people world-wide. Today other bands have exceeded them but some of their songs like Raining Blood, Angel Of Death etc are classics and always will be so. I\'d get mind-fucked if I were at a Slayer gig.. The band I most certainly must watch live before I die. \\m/ |

@symphony21
You can say that again man. That\'s one band I really would like to watch live. One of the best bands ever. As you said, there ARE bands who may be better than them, but Slayer started it all. Slayer has been an inspiration to most of the big bands now.
Slayer is God \\m/ |

Its amazing how much Tom Araya is worshipped.And I thought one needed to be dead to get undeserved worship.
I currently would love see Amon Amarth and Sonata Arctica live most badly.In fact I might even venture into a pit for the 1st time in my life at an Amon Amarth show. |

Yeah people has that Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman are shit guitarists, no soul and all, but they were by far the most innovative for their time. To go harder and faster than anyone back then. Metallica and Megadeth only pushed it as far as thrash metal could take them. Slayer went past thrash metal and on into Death metal. Even today, Slayer would probably have some of the fastest and hardest riffs in metal. Songs like Criminally Insane and Fight To Death.. \\m/
Another band I really want to watch is Judas Priest. What an epic band. Belting album after album of pure un-adulterated metal and causing the genesis of loads of other metal bands in their wake.. |

Going faster would hardly qualify as innovation.More like impatience.Jeff Hannemann can still play well.The no. of wrong notes Kerry King hits in his solos is not funny.If you can call those frantic whammy sessions \'solos\' that is....
If you\'re talking about innovation then I believe it was the Germans that took it to another level.I mean they had around 3 different picking styles in 1 measure.They could traverse scales so beautifully it was almost like magic.And where has Slayer gone to in terms of scale changes?NOWHERE.they still stick to playing a 4-note rhythm sequence that is repeated a whole step higher.That\'s about all the scale changing you\'ll hear in a Slayer song. |

Bands you HAVE to watch before you die:
Iron Maiden.. I know most of us have probably seen them in bangalore or Bombay. but it is something every metalhead HAS to do atleast once.. Awesome experience
Lamb Of God.. How often do you get to watch 10,000+ fans beat the heck out of each other?
Meshuggah
Dream Theater.. Mike Portnoy!!!! |

This is your thinking because of the progress music has made since then. In the modern sense, Slayer isn\'t great. No scale changes, random solos, jus mindless straight riffing, no patterns etc. But go back about 25 years. The music Slayer played was practically unheard of. Bands like Slayer, Venom, Possessed all pushed thrash metal to their extremes. Using these bands as a standrad, so many bands improvised, so many new genres formed and metal became what it is today..
And one thing. What Kerry King plays. Not bum notes. He\'s a better guitarist than that.. |

I guess if you look at it THAT way then it makes sense.But the influence Thrash had on Death metal was I guess mostly due to the German bands.One doesn\'t need to hear \'Pleasure to Kill\' twice to realize its MUCH faster than \'Reign in Blood\' |

But I guess we could jus go on and on and on with this.. Doesn\'t matter. Essentially, I have to watch a Slayer show before I die..
